I can't refer for Community (CDS)?

Can't Refer to Community (CDS)?

Reason's for referral may not appear or the patient choice may not be a Community provider for one of the following reasons:

  • The complexity of the patient’s medical conditions, medications and/or modifying factors can influence the pathways available and the provider options. If a patient is considered non-complex, they will not be eligible for CDS services in some areas.
  • If the treatment required is considered complex based on the information entered on the pathway, the patient may not be offered a Community as per local guidance.
  • Not indicating that a patient has a severe gag reflex or severe dental anxiety will affect the community options for the patients in some areas.
  • The Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) in which the patient’s GP practice is located may influence the CDS options provided.
  • In some areas the Local Area Team (LAT) has not commissioned Rego for Community Dental Services (CDS), in this case use alternative methods for referring.
Please note:

Changes made to the medical history and modifying factors section prior to sending a referral, may impact and even remove a reason for a referral. Should you have any further questions relating to why certain reasons for referral are configured by CCG or the policy around ‘Out of Area’ patients, please contact your LAT.
