Referring for GA (General Anaesthetic)

As a referring practice or clinician you are not able to specify any indication for General Anaesthetic

  • GA is not a service you can refer for as a GDP. You may enter that the patient is anxious and send a patient for sedation, however the assessment as to what type of sedation a patient will receive is entirely based on the opinion of the specialist sedation practice.

  • Should a specialist sedation practice choose to accept a referral then they will treat the patient, if they deem the case more serious they may choose to refer it onto the hospital provider you selected.

Please note:

This is the advice given to us, we are not clinically trained on the support desk and so our knowledge is limited, if you wish to raise this further please contact your local area team.
